I am reading “Great Minds in Business” its a section on Entrepreneur.com, it is the success stories of the worlds most Successful Entrepreneurs like Hendry Ford, Bill Gates & a whole bunch of entrepreneurs you've never heard of. I am reading all of them from A-Z I read about 1-3 per day, i'm on the G's right now.

Oh my god, its soo fun. And I learn soo damn much, some really great lessons in there. I've always wanted to read up on great entrepreneurs of our time & I am finally doing it. And also, in the beginning I was Bias & though that the old entrepreneurs from the 1800's wouldn't be interesting to me at all, but Some of my now favorite entrepreneurs are from the 1800's & very early 1900's, youve got to check it out!

A really Great Quote from a great entrepreneur I discovered through this site is Eileen Ford, she was the founder of a Super Model Agency (Multi Billion Dollar Agency) This women is a True! entrepreneur, she once said to one of her clients these words, and they are so inspiring: “Look, dear, you’re a mess. If you want to model, fine. If you want to fool around, that’s fine too. But you can’t do both, so make up your mind and that’s that.” To me, that is soo damn inspiring. I just replaced Super Model with Entrepreneur, & it makes me want to clean up my act so much! It replays in my head always when I start to slack off.

Every entrepreneur engaged in online marketing wants to have as many people to market their products or services to as possible. But with this desire can come the temptation to send email to those that haven’t asked for it.

I, for example have a website with over 6500 email addresses on it. I have another unrelated new business that I want to start marketing for. Can I send those 6500 people an email for the new unrelated business? I wouldn’t dare.

Sending email to this set of contacts is considered Spam because they did not opt-in to my new business, and sending them this unsolicited email can see my email server black listed by other email servers. Incidentally, it’s widely agreed that the term Spam comes from the Monty Python film ‘The Life of Brian’ a film which sees prisoners continually fed Spam meat.

While the terms origins are somewhat humorous, the consequences of sending Spam are not. Email marketing is regulated in the United States by the ‘Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing’ act of 2003 (or the “CAN-SPAM Act”). And breaking this law can result in fines of up to $250 per infringement – not funny.

So what can we do to ensure that we don’t fall foul of the CAN-SPAM act and maintain a good reputation?

Well one thing we can do is make sure that beside every opt in form we state that by opting in they are agreeing that we can send them communications about our products and services.

We can also assure them, in a line under the entry boxes that we will only use their information for these purposes.

We can ask them to ‘Double opt-in’. This would see the customer enter their email address into a box and then they would be asked to confirm their opt-in by opening an automated email sent from us to them and clicking an activation link.

This has upsides and downsides. The upside is that people can’t opt-in those they know without their knowledge. But the downside is that many people won’t be bothered to follow your instructions and find your activation email.

SPAM is a very serious offense and the online marketing community would do well to take it seriously. So take care to make sure that the people you market to have requested your communications so that your journey to home business success goes unhindered.

Starting A Business Is Not Easy

Because you do not like your boss and you have some cash in the bank to start a business does not mean that it is the right thing to do for you. The truth is that running a business is not for everyone. Not everyone is made out to be an entrepreneur. Owning a business requires skill, aptitude and the right temperament.

Before running head-over-heels into your first business venture you have to take time to think about who you are. When you invest your energy, time, and money in a venture, you want a good return and therefore need to make sure that you have what it takes. While many entrepreneurs and small business owners make a good living, there is no guarantee that you will do also.

Having a business means that you will have to deal with your fears and handle a lot of challenges. It is not without risks. To find out whether running your own business is for you, start small. If possible start part time. That way you can test the waters and see if you really want to have your own business on the long run.

Running a small business requires that you have the right skills and personality. If you lack skills in a certain area, then you need to make adjustments and take some courses to beef up on your weak areas. There are many reasons for small business failure. However, if you possess most of the following skills and traits the chances of success will increase significantly:

Are You a Self Starter?.
If you are a self-starter you have a better chance of making it. Owning your own business can be lonely because you do not always have people that you can bounce ideas off. You need to be able to take initiative to get things going and not rely on others to do it for you. This ability is especially important during the start-up phase.

Good People Skills are Important.
Even though you don’t have to get along with your boss or colleagues when you have your own business, you still are dealing with a lot of different people. That requires you to possess good people skills. People you probably deal with are business partners, customers, bankers, staff, contractors, accountants, lawyers, or other vendors in your industry. You need to be able to develop good rapport with a varied group

of people. Reputation is important in life in general, but particularly when you are running your own business. Get along with people, and always shoot for for a win-win solution to business conflicts. That will go a long way in growing the business profitably.

Know How to Make Decisions.
How are you when it comes to decision-making? Are you not afraid to make decisions? Your answer should be positive to that question because you will be faced with situations that require you to make decisions swiftly, efficiently, and independently. You need to be able to work through things yourself and not be afraid to make decisions. Yes, you will make mistakes, but that is all part of growing up as an entrepreneur.

Be Prepared for Hard Work.
Running a business requires a lot of your time. You need to be able physically and emotionally 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Not all the time, but when business requires such a commitment you must to be willing to step up to the plate and be there. If you are a family-oriented person, you will at times have to sacrifice family time. Research studies show that the first few years of the business are the most crucial as the business interferes with personal relationships. Even though your business will require total commitment at times, you must learn to balance personal and business. When things are slower make up for lost time with family and friends.

Know What You Want.
Are you organized? If not, take some courses and learn how to plan and set goal and how to work toward them efficiently. You have heard the saying: “Failing to plan means planning to fail.” A poor business plan or one with no plan at all, leads to businessfailure. Don’t rush into things without a strong and well designed plan.

As an entrepreneur you need to persevere and have a lot of patience. Don’t fall for the many promotions that promise a quick get rich scheme. During these tough economic times you see these more than ever, especially in internet marketing and MLM businesses. Don’t fall for those slick sales pitches and do not rush quickly into the next tempting business opportunity. Success comes through hard work, commitment and good management. It also will take time.
